The best songs to get ready to

Three young women are applying makeup in the bathrooms before a night out.

Now that we’re deep into the festive season and New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, we bet your social calendar is filling up fast with festive celebrations that’ll have you RSVP-ing “Yes!” in a heartbeat.

With that in mind, we firmly believe that the most necessary ritual for any woman getting ready for a big night out is finding the perfect getting-ready soundtrack. One guaranteed to take the experience from just another day to putting you truly in the zone for partying. All you need is the perfect playlist packed with feel-good jams proven to get you in the mood every time. But what exactly are the best songs to get ready to?

Well, here at Jayley, we didn’t want to just chuck a bunch of our favourite tracks into a list and call it a day’s work. Oh no! Instead, we wanted to find out what songs are “officially” the best songs to get ready to. So we dug deep into Spotify data to find out which tunes are topping your “going out” playlists to determine the top 10 most popular songs to have on blast whilst you’re getting ready to paint the town red. Without further ado, let us take you through the ultimate getting-ready soundtrack.

1. Promiscuous – Nelly Furtado

Topping off this list as the number one song to get your boogie on to is none other than Promiscuous by Nelly Furtado, a fantastic 00s tune that very much has the feel-good factor. Promiscuous had a recent resurgence as part of a TikTok trend earlier this year, appearing a whopping 330 times across “going-out” themed Spotify playlists leading it to be crowned the official best song to get ready to.

2. Maneater – Nelly Furtado

A second entry for the newly-crowned queen of “hyped up to go out” playlists has cinched second place. Maneater by Nelly Furtado offers the perfect balance of pumped-up pace and feel-good factor, so there’s no question why it features so heavily in your playlists – featuring a staggering 211 times,  it’s bound to continue its feat of popularity for years to come.

3. Hips Don’t Lie – Shakira

Colombian superstar Shakira has lived in all of our brains rent-free since the release of Hips Don’t Lie in 2005/ This track has remained an absolute party banger for the best part of 2 decades, which is why you guys added it to your getting-ready-to-party playlists a tremendous 209 times, and we don’t blame you. As it takes pride of place as 3rd runner up in our guide to the ultimate getting ready to go out tracks, we’re mentally boogying to this Latin phenomena.

4. No Scrubs – TLC

If attitude is what you’re looking for, then attitude is what we’ll give you. Sometimes, the one thing you need to get you hyped and ready for a big girls’ night is a quintessential “girls hit” song for women by women. We’ve never been in a social setting where TLC’s No Scrubs has hit the speaker, and not a single woman has hit the dance floor. It’s a foolproof track that has a guaranteed effect every time it’s played, which is why it graced your getting gal’s night-ready playlists a marvellous 209 times – landing it fourth in the running for the best song to get ready to.

5. Toxic – Britney Spears

Another track that’s seen a popularity boom thanks to TikTok trends is Toxic by none other than the princess of pop, Britney Spears. Toxic is a tune that, if you were alive during the early noughties, will be ingrained in your brain, and if you weren’t, its lyrics are probably something you’ve inherited from the older women in your family. The iconic opening chords are enough to get your blood pumping and your party energy at an all-time high, so there’s no argument from us about why you guys love to have it on blast whilst you’re getting in the mood for a boogie. Appearing 207 times across playlists themed around “getting ready to go out”, we’re ranking this top-tier track at number 5.

6. Low – Flo Rida

Number 6 is a certified floor-filler and has been since its release in 2007. Flo Rida’s chart breakout track “Low” was and still is a brilliant bop for when you want to get in the party spirit. It’s high-energy and feel-good, and it’s definitely a song that needs to be played at full volume or not at all. It’s entering number 6 in our official chart with an admirable 205 appearances in “going out” titled Spotify playlists.

7. Afraid to Feel – LF System

The first dance track to grace our list is Afraid to Feel by LF System. Whilst the title may not seem familiar to all; the tune definitely will be. Afraid to Feel was a 2022 radio and dancefloor favourite. With its feel-good dance beat and scream-able lyrics, this song is the perfect track to have you shaking and dancing away your worries and inhibitions as you get ready to hit the town – a sentiment 204 of you agree with, which is why you’ve all got it saved as a go-to track in your getting ready to party playlists.

8. Give Me Everything – Pitbull

There are many songs with the power to unite a room full of people, but not all are on this list. Mr Worldwide is gracing our list at number 8 with his smash-hit “Give Me Everything”, which features several other pop music icons such as Ne-Yo, Nayer and Afrojack. Initially hitting the charts and filling nightclub speakers in 2011, this Pitbull hit is still a fantastic track over a decade later – filling both dancefloors and Spotify playlists with 201 features in your getting-ready playlists.

9. Needed Me – Rihanna

Our one and only entrance from Queen Rhi Rhi isn’t necessarily the one we expected, but we’re not angry about it. Rihanna’s 2015 hit “Needed Me” is the perfect track if you’re getting ready for a “getting over him” girls’ night; it’s got an attitude and a little bit of drama – exactly what you need to get in the party mood, even if you need a little persuasion from your friends. 140 playlist saves is what has this track sitting pretty in position 9.

10. Good Days – SZA

Our final entrant is definitely the most chilled tune on this list, and sometimes laidback vibes are exactly what you need to relax and get into the zone. Good Days by SZA ticks the boxes of both chilled and feel-good, making it the perfect melodic match for your getting-ready ritual. 106 of you 106% love having something more relaxed in beats per minute to get you ready for your big night ahead; it’s always a good idea to save your energy for the dancefloor.
